Review: The Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford
Watched The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford last night with Eric and it took all of my womanly control to keep him from turning the movie off after 45 minutes. I made him watch all 160 minutes of it and, man, did I feel bad about it after it was all over. Seriously, there were some really awesome performances and some really beautiful cinematography but the script was so irritatingly interpreted by the director that it left me feeling like a right-wing republican who can’t stand all of those Hollywood-types - it was offensive what they thought I’d accept as “Art” - how dumb do they think we are? It had the potential to be a good movie (maybe if the Cohen brothers had taken control halfway through the editing process or something) but the end result was pretentious and annoying in the same way that the Thin Red Line was pretentious and annoying - a whole bunch of cameos and a whole bunch of artsy camera work can’t make the film brilliant. The cast was awesome, however. And I mean that across the board. EVERYONE was awesome. I entirely blame the director. Everyone else did a great job.
