Finished Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and after carefull consideration came to the conclusion that I didn’t like the show. Obviously I’m not the only one but I wanted to give it as fair a review as possible since I really like a ton of people on the cast: Timothy Busfield, Matthew Perry, Steven Weber, Ayda Field, Mark McKinney, Merritt Wever,… I obviously like Bradley Whitford, too, but he basically played the same person in this show as he did in the West Wing and it seems like it was a bad choice for Sorkin to make (I mean he’s hilarious but he’s Josh and I don’t want to hear about Josh’s cocaine addiction. It just doesn’t work for me.) Amanda Peet’s character really grew on me which I attribute to her skill as an actress. I think the opposite is true for Sarah Poulson - her character became less and less interesting which is sad since she was really the main character I was initially interested in. I think her demise was entirely due to the writing. I think she was written a character that is supposed to be immature and whiny and I believe she played the part to the best of her ability. In fact, I believe that any flaw that exists with this show is the sole responsibility of Aaron Sorkin. This isn’t news, I’m sure, but it makes me mad. I mean, can you imagine how exited some of these actors were when they got the call from their agents? “It’s a new, fresh take on Hollywood from Aaron Sorkin, the man who could do no wrong”. Granted, it’s a lot of pressure but still - assuming that the same format that worked for a presidency will work for a television show seems a little arrogant and puts a little too much importance on the TV show maybe.
